Even his home had a clinical feel to it there was nothing that meant anything to him there. He didn’t even live his life – it was football, and then early to bed unless a teammate could manage to drag him out for some fun. But for Dom, the only thing that meant anything to him was football.

And outwardly, material-wise, there’s no arguing it was.

In contrast, Dom’s life seems so much better. She was so good to him and always had his best interests at heart. Thankfully he had a great friend in Jamila who was there for him when she could be and worried like crazy when she couldn’t be. Lucky’s life was devastating and it broke my heart. But Lucky and Dom can’t seem to stay away from each other, and no matter what the stakes are, Dom just can’t seem to stay away. Because of his career as a professional football player, he was firmly in the closet with no plans to change that. Contrary to his name, Lucky was down on his luck and in dire straits when he set up his ‘meeting’ with Dom, a professional football player with nothing to offer. Their interlude was steamy and sexy, but as with all Garrett Leigh love scenes, there’s an undercurrent of tenderness and depth that makes it feel as precious to the reader as it obviously is to the characters. Though these two had chemistry right off the bat, and it wasn’t just sexual. Desperate for money, Lucky agrees to a Grindr for cash hookup, and that’s how his relationship with Dom kicks off. Lucky and Dom’s story won me over immediately. Just seeing the cover of the book on my Kindle makes my heart skip a beat, and seeing Lucky sitting there waiting for me definitely did that. Every time I pick up a book from this author, I know I’m in for something special. There is a formula to my writing a review for a Garrett Leigh book – cue the gushy slash sappy intro. Losing Lucky seems inevitable, but his tight grip on his image counts for nothing when Lucky starts to fall.Ĭatching him could cost Dom everything, but if he can set his heart free, getting Lucky long term might be a risk worth taking. Meeting once was risky, twice pushes Dom’s courage to the limit. It’s a Grindr hook-up for cash, not a love match, but dreaming of his desperate, kind eyes earns a place amongst his numerous bad habits. Lucky Coleman is on his knees when he meets a man with more money than sense. Locked into his rep as the meanest defender on the pitch, keeping his secret is soul-crushing, but love has no place in his sport, even if his soft heart craves it. There are no trophies for being gay in his game.
